One of the most pesky creatures known to mankind, namely the pesky fruit fly or drain fly can be an extremely unwanted, bothersome and irritating pest. These tiny guys usually like to collect around stagnant water sources, including kitchens and other spots of our homes such as bathrooms. Known by a variety of names, these tiny flies are not just irritating, but can also cause diseases by going from one infected source to another. An interesting fact about drain flies is that they don’t actually fly, but rather hop from one spot to another. Despite being tiny, some of these drain flies and fruit flies can have lifestyles ranging from up to three weeks, and can hence be extremely irritating if already present. Further, they can also hatch new eggs within a timespan of every 48 hours. Therefore, to combat these pesky irritants, one needs the help of strong cleaners such as forid drain gel cleaner.

What should I do if I have a fly infestation?

While it might seem easy to panic if you have a fly infestation, one of the first things you need to do is calm down and identify the source of the infestation in your house. After identifying the source of the infestation, try and triangulate and restrict the infestation to that particular area only. This helps ensure that the rest of your house remains protected against flies.

Once you have identified where the flies are coming from, use a strong cleaner to eliminate the grease, dirt, or bacteria that is acting as an effective food source for the flies. By eliminating the source of food for the flies, they eventually are not able to multiple, and the problem dies down.

Most fruit or drain flies come from outside, and it is, therefore, important to ensure that your pipes remain clean as well. More often than not, fruit flies and drain flies come directly from open pipes, drains and other sticky spots of your house.

  • Start off by cleaning the areas where the flies exist. This includes areas such as the drain, the sink and the commode. Use a strong cleaning solution that is meant for this purpose.
  • Depending on the sort of drainage system that you have, you can also consider pouring hot water once or twice a week into the drain to kill any drain or fruit flies that may be present.
  • If the infestation is too intense or you prefer to prevent better than cure, store-bought drain cleaners are the ideal solution for such flies. These not only clear out on unclogging your drains but also clear out any debris which may be present in your pipes which may be proving to be a food source for all the insects.
  • If you still see pesky flies around, a solution with a good disinfectant cleaner may be the ideal solution.

Following the above may help you effectively deal with any fruit or drain fly infestation, and will also help ensure that such infestations do not recur.
